INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF STUDY

Man exist in society where education is one of the important process in the transmission of knowledge, skills, ideas and values in order for them to become useful to themselves and the society. It is accepted that a child’s background has a powerful effects on the life. An African maxim says that “a child who is cared for, loved and who is aware that his parents are interested in him and his academic performance will strive to work hard so as to please his parent based on the aforementioned the time after school would be judiciously spent in diligent study and doing some assignments and home work instead of loitering or playing with friends. The study shows that there are many factors, which affects a child’s academic performance in school, such as the cultural and economic environment in which the child is nurtured. Examples are sex (gender), ethnicity and religious background.
