PRESS FREEDOM IN NIGERIA: A STUDY OF GOVERNMENT AND RELATIONS UNDER IBRAHIM BABANGIDA REGIME

 

ABSTRACT

The study on “press freedom in Nigeria” was a historical event of the past military directorship from 1985-1993 under Ibrahim Babangida regime. This work used survey method and the purpose of this study is to find out it there was a press freedom under IBB’s regime or not. It also carried at knowing the extent by which press freedom was curtailed or favoured during IBB’s regime. This work found out that IBB’s regime intact killed press freedom to its highest level. Journalists were jailed, detained while newspapers organizations were closed. Decrees were unlawfully promulgated to the detrainment of the journalists and other media practitioners.
